Cinco de Mayo marks the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, the battle that turned the tide in the Mexican struggle for independence. Because of the timing, it has blossomed into an occasion for celebration; not only the imminent arrival of independence in Mexico, but also the arrival of spring and renewal, with food, friends and family in many cultures. Because of demographics and increased popularity, Mexican food has become one of the fastest growing cuisine types in America, and Cinco de Mayo has evolved into one of the biggest food fiesta days of the year.

Toloache Restaurant is named after a flowering plant in Mexico, often used in love potions to cast a spell over someone special. Chef Julian Medina's food has a similar power, using seasonal ingredients to create authentic Mexican cuisine that will entice any palate. Beginning Monday, April 28th and running through Monday, May 5th, Toloache will be offering a special menu, offering dishes made with Hass Avocados from Mexico. The menu will include dishes such as avocado and jicama ravioli, avocado fries, and an avocado cheesecake.

On April 28th, Chef Medina will host a free demo on how to prepare his signature guacamole, followed by a free tasting and chef meet & greet, courtesy of Hass Avocados from Mexico (RSVP requested).

To kick off Cinco de Mayo festivities, Olé Mexican Grill, one of Boston's most acclaimed Mexican restaurants, will feature Has-To-Be-Hass week with special menu items showcasing innovative and mouthwatering uses of one of Mexico's greatest treasures: Hass Avocados from Mexico.

The week culminates with a great Cinco de Mayo party, complete with Mariachi, dancers, music and great food. According to Chef Erwin Ramos, "Cinco de Mayo is about celebrating with friends and good food and drink. Guacamole gets people sharing, and in a festive mood." Chef Ramos will be offering a Has-To-Be-Hass special menu which may include dishes such as fried oysters with guacamole, avocado and crabmeat terrine, and warm pistachio crepes with Hass Avocado ice cream.

Ole Mexican Grill will host a free demo on how to prepare Ole's signature guacamole, followed by a free tasting and chef meet & greet, courtesy of Hass Avocados from Mexico. The demo is FREE, but reservations are required.

Cantina 1511, voted "Best Mexican Cuisine" by Charlotte Magazine is celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a special menu featuring one of Mexico's staple ingredients: Hass Avocados from Mexico.

"Mexican flavors are so alive, festive, fun - it's really the perfect party food," says Cantina 1511 Chef Mike Penaranda. The special menu kicks off Monday April 28, and runs through Monday May 5, and will offer a variety of interesting dishes made with Hass Avocados from Mexico, from Cantina's famous guacamole, to avocado fries with a creamy lime dipping sauce, to Pollo Laredo with avocado whipped potatoes.
